About the Authors
Meredith Kennedy, novelist, musician and veterinarian, received her DVM from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990 and has practiced as a veterinarian in California, Saipan, Mariana Islands, and Zanzibar. She also holds a Master’s degree in music from California State University Long Beach, and has done several solo and choir performance tours in Europe, California and China, and has recorded several albums. Dr. Kennedy worked as an Academic Director for SIT from 1992 to 2002; in Tanzania, Zanzibar, Ghana, Botswana and New Zealand. In 1996 she designed and started the Zanzibar Coastal Ecology program, and returned there to run the Fall 2007 semester. She's also a Queen Mother in the village of Banko, Ashantiland, Ghana, and has helped to supply several schools with teaching supplies there. In addition to writing, teaching and practicing medicine, Dr. Kennedy lectures on cross-cultural sociology on the east coast, and her sociology teaching novels are currently in use at the undergraduate level in North Carolina, San Diego, and New Zealand. Marty E. Zusman is Emeritus Professor of Sociology at Indiana University Northwest. Teaching 'Introduction to Sociology' has been a major focus of Dr. Zusman’s career. He is also the author or co-author of over 100 professional articles. Dr. Zusman's teaching was competitively evaluated earning him the prestigious S. E. Bowman Teaching Excellence Award given each year to only one teacher in the entire Indiana University system.
Caroline Schacht, better known as “Dd,” is a teaching instructor at East Carolina University, where she has taught Introduction to Sociology; Deviant Behavior; Courtship and Marriage; Sociology of Education; Individual and Society; and Sociology of Food. She co-authors textbooks Choices in Relationships with her husband, David Knox, and Understanding Social Problems with Linda Mooney and David Knox. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, gardening, and “junking.”
